Don’t Speak English at Work, Please
Nancy Pelosi, ignoring a majority vote in the Senate and House, is trying to force the Salvation Army to hire people who can’t speak English.
The full Senate voted 75-19 and the House voted 218-186 passing an amendment authored by Sen. Lemar Alexander to attach an English-in-the-workplace provision to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission budget bill on an Appropriations Committee vote. The bill would shield the Salvation Army and others from lawsuits for requiring English only in the workplace.
Nancy Pelosi has moved to kill the amendment.
Washington, D.C.’s Gun Control Law vs. the Second Amendment
“On every question of construction of the Constitution, let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.” — Thomas Jefferson
A panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled the District’s total ban on handgun possession to be unconstitutional with a 2-1 majority. The majority ruling was authored by Judge Laurence Silberman. In the court’s majority opinion, two major points were addressed: The Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to keep and bear arms and when the Second Amendment speaks of the “right of the people”, it refers to the right of “individuals and not a “collective right” of state governments or the National Guard.
In the lone dissent, Justice Karen LeCraft Henderson wrote that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms relates to those Militia whose continued vitality is required to safeguard the individual States.” She believes the District should be immune from the Second Amendment because it is not a state.
Musharraf, Lincoln, FDR and Glass Houses
General Pervez Musharraf suspended the Pakistan constitution, fired the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and dispensed police officers to enforce martial law in Pakistan. All this to “save the nation”. He also closed down the country’s privately owned television stations.
The Supreme Court justices were ordered to take an oath to abide by the “provisional constitutional order” that Musharraf has temporally implemented to replace the country’s existing Constitution. Any Supreme Court justice who refused to take a new oath to uphold the new “provisional constitutional order” would be fired. Seven of the eleven justices refused to take the oath and were fired by Musharraf, including the Chief Justice Chaudhry who who was replaced by Abdul Hamid Doger–a sympathizer of Musharraf.
New Mathematical Theorem displaces all Known Mathematical Fundamentals
The world of mathematical academia is in a state of disarray since the establishment of a new theorem in basic mathematic fundamentals last week. The discovery was thrust into the spotlight in Manchester England, by a one, Tina Farrell. The breaking story was first reported in the Manchester Evening News. There were several recognizable scholars working on similar mathematical theories, but it was the renowned mathematical anomaly Tina Farrell, known for her mathematical scholarship and cutting edge theorems, that announced the discovery to the Manchester Evening News after an abhorrent run-in with outdated formulations.
The background of the discovery was as simple as a scratch off lottery ticket. While playing the game, “Cool Cash”–a lottery scratch off game produced by the company Camelot, Dr. Farrell discovered the mathematical flaw that has been perpetuated on mankind since the era of Isaac Newton. The “rules” of the game are to scratch off a number that is smaller than the number at the top of the ticket. Since the game was a winter theme, the numbers represented temperature, usually in the negative degrees.
The Westboro Baptist Church and The Freedom of Speech Myth
The Westboro Baptist Church, founded and operated by Fred Phelps, became notorious by picketing the funerals of gay and allegedly gay people. Fred Phelps was disbarred from practicing law in Kansas in 1979 then in 1989 he was disbarred from practicing in Federal Courts. There is no official affiliation between the Westboro Baptist Church and any known Baptist organization, and all recognized Baptist associations vehemently deny any affiliation with this church.
Their demonstrating at the funeral of Mathew Shepard put them in the national spotlight. Shepard was a student at the University of Wyoming and was severely beaten and murdered because he was gay. The signs that the Westboro Baptist Church used during the demonstration at his funeral read, “No Fags in Heaven” and God Hates Fags.”
They have since moved on to disgrace the funerals of slain soldiers killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Which has lead to their current legal predicament.
